Overview
The Sri Azhagia Nambiravar Temple is located at Thirukurungudi and is dedicated to God Vishnu. This temple is located just on the banks of the Nambi river. It is the place where God Varahamurthy had reduced his huge form along with his consort.
About The Temple
This is one of the 108 Vaishnava Divya desams. This shrine has been revered in the Mangalasanams of the Thirumangai Azhwar, Thirumazhisai Azhwar and Nammazhwar. This temple is known to have been built 3000 years ago. This place had given birth to Nammzhwar. It is known that when Thirumangai Azhwar prayed with utter devotion to Sri Ranganatha in the Srirangam, the God told him to visit this place for the salvation. The Azhwar sung his last Mangalasanam at this place. Another belief is that the Silambaru river flowers here directly from the feet of the God.
About The Deity
The chief deity in this temple is God Shiva. He is also called as Azhagia Namirayar or Vaishnava Nambi. God’s consort is known as Kurungudivalli Nachiar. God appers here in the standing, sitting, walking and lying positions.
Legend and Stories
God Vishnu had retrieved this Earth when he was in his Varaha Avatar. It was when the rakshasa Hiranyaksaha tried to take the earth away. Goddess Earth took guidance of God Varaha. God told him that he could be reached through music and hence he was able to help Goddess earth from the dangerous Hiranyaksaha.

The main festivals celebrated in this temple include Chithirai Vasantha Utsav, Vaikasi Jesthabhishekam, Aavani Pavithra Utsav, Puruttasi Navarathri, Aipasi Swing festival, Thai float festival and Panguni Brahmmotsavam.
